This type of website is purely for markerting products or schemes. The main difference between this site and e-commerce site is that this site is not e-commerce enabled; it cannot accept payments online, yet.
Another key distiction is that while an e-commerce site is built round an organization (usually registered with Corporate Affairs Commission), with a fixed address and staff (the big guys).

Marketing sites are usually guys that are starting out without products but can make you rich if you work hard enough (affiliates marketing, multilevel marketing etc).
However, if you and selling is like drinking and driving, dont waste your time here. Build a solid information resources site and keep doing what you love best.
The main drawback of a marketing site is that you are tempted to try to make a naira or two here and there, instead of building a business. There is a temptation to jump from product to product, trying to ride a winner. If your downline ends in a dead end, you will simply disembark and look for another ride.
There is the danger that you will just end up with a website selling products, not a business that you can eventually sell for mega bucks or list in the Nigerian Stock Exchange.
This is why it is critical to determine the end from the beginning, so as to know which route to take, also whether you are just building a website or building a business. If you are building a buisiness, you will require a business plan, business systems and personnel to run it, as it makes financial sense to bring them in.
If you are just in it to make money so that you can move onto other things, the end result will be selling the website for profit after you have had your day online. If you are building a business, you will have to decide whether to ultimately take it public (like Google, Yahoo!), or sell it (like youtube, lastminute.com) or pass on to your children (if they are so inclined, which you can not count on absolutely.
