Organizer of AFRICAN GEMS & JEWELLERY EXHIBITION AND SEMINAR
AGJES is an annual event to showcase the best of Nigerian and African gemstones, precious metals and jewellery. Currently it is the only programme in the country that brings over 200 Jewellers, Gemstone suppliers and Gem Mining Industry Experts together once in a year to network, share business ideas, showcase trends and shape the outlook for the future of the industry.
Our flagship event (AGJES 2017), themed “Mines to Market”, which was held on the 19th and 20th of October 2017 at the Congress Hall of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, was a resounding success, gathering relevant players and stakeholders across the entire value chain and attracted over 2000 visitors over a 2-day period with about 40 Exhibitors displaying their products – both unrefined and refined.
One of our key objectives this year is to attract similar patronage within the global market as that enjoyed by other notable industry events such as Tucson Gem and Jewellery show in United States of America and Bangkok Gem and Jewellery Fair in the Royal Republic of Thailand. It is a well-known fact that many Nigerian gemstones find their way to these events and Nigeria rarely ever gets credit for them. More significantly, we do not benefit financially from the trade. Therefore, we intend to take advantage of the strong interest received from the international community during the 2017 exhibition to draw a global audience to AGJES 2018.
In 2017, we partnered with the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development and collaborated with NACIMMA, ACCI and eight mining industry associations; (Women in Mining-WIM, Miners Association of Nigeria-MAN, Gemologists and Jewellers Association of Nigeria-GJAN, Faceters Guild of Nigeria-FGN, Gemstone Miners and Marketers Association of Nigeria-GMMAN, Gemstones Association of Nigeria-GAN, International Coloured Stone Association-ICA and GIA Alumni Association).
