Nigerian Press Council is established by CAP N128 to promote high professional standards for the Nigeria Press. Its vision is to create a culture of Ethical Press in Nigeria driven through research and documentation of contemporary press development; training and workshop for journalists; accreditation of programmes in tertiary institutions; enquiring into complaint about the press and monitoring the activities of the press.

The Nigerian Press Council (NPC) as the buffer between the media and the public provides variety of services to the media, the public and of course the government. It ensures the maintenance of the highest ethical and professional standards in the media  by rendering the following services to relevant stakeholders:

  • Adjudication of complaints about or by the press;
  • Research into and documentation of contemporary press development;
  • Accreditation of programmes of journalism training institutions;
  • Defence of press freedom;
  • Media monitoring;
  • Protection of Journalists rights and privileges in the course of performing their lawful duties;
  • Human Capital Development;
  • Rendition of appropriate advice to stakeholders on media issues
