The Nnamdi Azikwe Teaching Hospital is an agency/parastatal under the Federal Ministry of Health

In order to meet the demands of the National Policy on Medical Education which stipulates that batch Teaching Hospital shall be associated with a community Medicare Centre for Community and Primary Healthcare, Neni, Aniocha L.G.A was designated an annex of Teaching Hospital in October,1989 and commissioned on the 27th December,1991.

Another Annex of the Teaching Hospital, the Guinness Eye Hospital Onitsha, Onitsha North L.G.A was handed over to the NAUTH Management Board on the 26th June, 1991, for treatment of eye disorders.

Other annexes of the hospital which were later handed over to her include:

  1. The Centre of Community/Primary Health Care. Ukpo, Dunukofia L.G.A, which was commissioned on the 10th April, 1997.
  2. The Trauma centre Oba, Idemili South L.G.A ceded by the Federal Ministry of Health and commenced services to the community on 28th February, 2005.
  3. Federal Staff Clinic (NAUTH Annex) Awka, Awka South Local Government of Anambra State, which was established in 1999 as Federal Staff clinic to serve the Staff of Federal establishment and their families. It was ceded to NAUTH in May 2008 following the establishment of National Health Insurance Scheme.
  4. The centre of community/primary Health care, Umunya, oyi L.G.A which was commissioned on 17th June, 2005.

Presently, the location of the main Hospital at Nnewi is temporary
