The Student Union of the Federal University of Technology, Akure is proud to announce the WAZOBIA Cultural Week Festival 2017. This annual festival being the first of its kind, is a celebration of the cultural diversity in Nigeria and will be held at the Federal University of Technology Akure campus from the 23rd – 28th of January 2017. The theme for this year’s event is National Influence

THE WAZOBIA CULTURAL WEEK IS TARGETED AT
A. Improving cultural heritage by using new media tools and events.
B. Coordinated approach toward conservation of cultural heritage in combination with educational activities.
C. Joint promotion of historic sights and communication strategies.

“Multiculturalism is more than just the acknowledgment of a diverse cultural background. Here at FUTA, we witness the intertwining and interaction between cultures, and the positive influences they play on each other: National Influence.”

WCW Soccer Tournament
Official WCW Opening/lecture
WCW Trade Fare
WCW National Film Festival
WCW Gathering and Variety Night
WCW Carnival

WAZOBIA cultural Week festival is a week of diverse, all-inclusive gastronomic exploits, plus a weekend to indulge in a lifestyle where your biggest decision will be how do I pick which activity to attend.

FUTA CUP OF NATION
WCW SOCCER TOURNAMENT 2017
WAZOBIA cultural Week 2017 kicks off with FUTA Cup of Nation soccer tournament, which is perhaps the epitome of the Multicultural Week Celebrations. This is an annual soccer tournament organized to attract students and staff, bringing them together to play in the biggest sport of the nation. It also aims to encourage students to develop a balance between sports and academic activities.
This shall constitute 4 teams representing North & middle belt, south west, south east, and south-south.

FIRST ROUND Monday 23rd 4:00pm–6:00pm
SECOND ROUND Tuesday 24th, 4:00pm–6:00pm
THIRD PLACE Wednesday 25th 4:00pm–6:00pm
FINAL Thursday 26th 4:00pm – 6:00pm

OFFICIAL WCW OPENING/LECTURE
24th January 2017, 10:00am
The WAZOBIA Cultural Week Official Opening will be orchestrated by the host Vice chancellor followed by a Lecture on the theme of this year’s cultural week; “National Influence” to provide the host community and spectators with a snapshot understanding of the mechanics of culture & tradition and in the time available gain an overview of some of the elements of National influence and importance of conservation of cultural heritage.
This event will also feature exciting activities which will provides the opportunity for spectators to meet others in a social atmosphere combining entertainment or food and beverage in the package; live comedy shows, exhibitions and trade fair; which will provides an ambience to do business where sellers can meet their buyers.

WCW NATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
25th & 26th January 2017, 6:00pm -9:00pm
WAZOBIA Film Festival will feature movies from Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo backgrounds among others, will be shown alternatively. The film festival is to give spectators a chance to know more about different cultures through the movies that are shown. Movies that are significantly unique to its culture, some of which were endorsed by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

WCW GATHERING AND VARIETY NIGHT
27 January 2017, 6pm – 9pm.
The WAZOBIA Cultural Week Variety Night will feature a wide array of exciting activities:
a. Dance performance by cultural troupes
b. Competitions – Cooking, Music, Eating, Dance, Fashion
c. learn one or two new cooking tricks and savour the taste of mouth-watering, finger-licking delicacies sampling from over 30 ethnicities in Nigeria; Food Art Exhibition.
d. Get the taste of the best of Nigeria’s contemporary brews
e. While munching and sipping away you will also be entertained by some of Nigeria’s most exciting music artistes.

WAZOBIA CULTURAL WEEK CARNIVAL
28th January 2017, 2:00pm – 11:00pm.
This year’s theme: National Influence, hopes to bring all Nigerian’s cultures together in the hope of bridging the gap between our cultural diversity.

WAZOBIA Cultural Week Carnival:- is an event filled with cultural performances, games and food stalls that showcase a variety of different cultures across the country. Performances like the Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo, Itsekiri and Urhobo cultural displays among others, and the Award of excellence to individuals & honour of the best brands, products and services. Also there will be sensational bands and numerous stalls which will sell traditional cuisine from different parts of the country.
The Carnival will also feature the exotic sounds of the outdoor musical performance by renowned Nigerian artists later at around 7pm.

TRADE FAIR
The WAZOBIA Cultural Week Festival will feature trade fairs from 24th-27th day of event, 10am- 4:00pm daily. Get up to 50% (yes, 50%) discount on over 200 drinks and grocery (foodstuff) items at the festival. It’s a bazaar!

1. What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
Answer: there is provision for transportation and or enough packing space for your vehicle, directions will be placed at every strategic point.

2. Mode of dressing?
Answer: Native attire

3. Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
Answer: Yes (either hard or soft copy)

4. Can I update my registration information?
Answer: Yes

5. Is there provisions for accommodation?
Answer: Yes, at a fee of 2000 naira available to only visiting students and guests

6. How and where can I pay for accommodation?
Answer: You are to pay for accommodation fee at the event
