Nigerian Choreographer Takes African Dance, Music To Hamburg.

Nigerian choreographer, Is­rael Akpan Sunday, with his team of four dancers and two musicians, are set to thrill their audience with a fusion of dance steps and music originating from Nigeria and other Africa countries at Hamburger Sprechwerk from April 29 to May 4.

It is funded by the Ham­burg Ministry of Culture and the Hamburgische Kul­turstiftung.

Followed by the urge to explore and develop the multicultural resources of Nigeria, Sunday had always dealt intensively with the rich cultural heritage of his home country, Nigeria.

The fusion, known as ‘Con­fusionist’, is a mishmash of Nigeria political and cultur­al-historical references, styles and feelings. The ‘Confusion­ist’ is an equilibrium of inde­cision in which one thing can be another.

As an interdisciplinary art­ist, he uses his performances to explore sociological, polit­ical, and economic problems of the contemporary society and questions its underlying systems.

Describing his style of mu­sical performances, he said, “My performance style is characterised by a fusion of everyday movements and be­haviours with contemporary dance as well as the constant incorporation of live music.
