JAMB’s Mop-Up Exam Slated for June 28

Nigeria’s Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is leaving no stone unturned in its relentless pursuit of a fair and credible examination system. The Board announced a mop-up examination for Saturday, June 28, 2025, for nearly 97,000 candidates, while simultaneously reinforcing its commitment to rooting out malpractice by delisting over 100 Computer-Based Test (CBT) centers and actively prosecuting syndicates involved in fraud.

This upcoming mop-up exercise offers a crucial second chance to 96,838 candidates. This includes over 5,000 students whose initial exams were impacted by biometric verification hiccups, and a significant 91,742 candidates who, for various reasons, were absent during both the main and rescheduled examinations. Starting today, Monday, June 23, 2025, these candidates can now print their notification slips, which will detail their assigned centers and examination times for the Saturday test. The examinations are slated to hold in 183 centers nationwide, with a handful of others on standby.

However, beyond providing a second chance, JAMB is sending a clear, unequivocal message: examination malpractice will not be tolerated. The Board revealed it has taken decisive action, delisting a staggering 113 CBT centers. These centers, spread across the country, were found wanting on multiple fronts, from technical shortcomings to direct involvement in exam fraud. Investigations are ongoing, and any center definitively linked to wrongdoing will face prosecution.

Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Public Communications Adviser, stated on Sunday that these investigations have already peeled back layers of sophisticated syndicates. Worryingly, these networks include not just unscrupulous school proprietors and tutorial center operators, but also, in a few instances, some JAMB officials themselves. Dr. Benjamin commended the invaluable collaboration of the State Security Service, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for their relentless efforts in unraveling cases of identity theft and other forms of examination fraud.

As a direct consequence of these ongoing investigations, several examination towns have been deemed unsuitable for the mop-up exercise. Candidates originally assigned to these deactivated locations will be reassigned to the nearest available towns, and JAMB has appealed for their understanding during this necessary adjustment.

Furthermore, JAMB issued a stern warning to undergraduate students who engage in impersonation, a persistent headache for examination bodies. The Board clarified that the institutions of any apprehended student impersonators would be notified, and these individuals could face expulsion for violating their matriculation oaths, in addition to criminal prosecution under the Examination Malpractice Act of 1999.

With the first session of the mop-up examination set to kick off at 8:00 am, candidates are strongly advised to arrive at their designated centers at least an hour ahead of time. JAMB reaffirmed its dedication to transparency and fairness, assuring the public that the mop-up examinations will be conducted under stringent supervision, with specialized teams of invigilators and security personnel deployed to monitor the entire process. This resolute stance underscores Nigeria’s commitment to building a credible and equitable educational foundation for its future generations.
