The Group Managing Director of  NICON Insurance Limited, Dr Jimoh Ibrahim, has donated N40m to the Ondo State Government to fight  coronavirus.

While presenting the cheque to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, the businessman said the NICON Group hoped to support in preventing the spread of the disease in six other states.

Ibrahim urged the governor to involve the private hospitals as testing centres.

He said, “This is a pandemic we cannot play with. We are going to help six states build medical capacity.

“The government alone cannot fight this virus. We don’t have data. We need data on who have developed symptoms for the virus. If we treat those set of people, they may not graduate to coronavirus.”

Meanwhile, there was a commotion at the venue of the distribution of some palliatives items to the residents of Ondo, in the Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State as the residents disagreed with representatives of the government.

A source told our correspondent that the resident were angry over the alleged failure of the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Mrs Lola Fagbemi, leader of the team, to carry the community leaders of the town along.

The source said, “When they brought them to the town, they did not inform the Kabiyesi, the council chairman or other leaders in the community.

“This infuriated the people because there would not be objectivity in the distribution if the community leaders were not carried along.”

It was, however, gathered that the matter was later resolved after the intervention of the state governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu.

Fagbemi in a statement by her media aide, Oyedele  Abiodun, said the palliatives were not rejected by the people.

She said, “The distribution was adjusted to enhance a conducive environment.”
