Group launches free coronavirus testing app in Nigeria

COVID TestNigeria has launched a free web application designed to help users diagnose symptoms of the COVID-19, and get advice on the next line of action in compliance with the international prevention guidelines.

The group made this known in a press statement on Thursday.

According to the initiators, the application gives feedback support that will enable the NCDC, relevant agencies and state governments to know where to concentrate energy in the fight against the virus.

The statement added, “The virtual resources offer an online screening tool, information about the disease, and some guidance on when to seek testing or emergency care.

“Also, the application can virtually make recommendations for government official intervention after test/diagnosis, for users with high and extreme risk of the virus.

“The web application was founded by prominent IT experts, Bukola Ogundipe and Joel Popoola of the famous Rate Your Leader App, which allows abuse-free interaction between the electors and the elected.

“The National Orientation Agency and the Akin Fadeyi Foundation are also partners in the scheme. The resources are, however, developed and designed by the Asset Awards IT Team led by Ogundipe.

“The application is set to debut on Wednesday, April 15, 2020, with a soft launch, and will be saddled with the responsibility of evaluating the feasibility of the platform as well as address whatever challenges that may arise.

“The primary objective of the novel technology is to checkmate the spread of the Coronavirus disease, which has killed close to a hundred thousand persons globally since its inception late December.”

Popoola, who commended the effort of the federal government and its agencies especially the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, added that all information provided and identities are considered confidential.

“Though built with facts from reputable sources including World Health Organisation, NCDC, Centre for Disease Control and National Health Scheme, the application does not absorb anyone from following the NCDC, local, state or Federal governments’ guidelines,” he added.
