Nigerian Stars Shine Bright at 2025 Africa Arts Entertainment Awards

Lagos — Nigerian artists swept the board at the 2025 Africa Arts Entertainment Awards (AAEA), claiming top honours across multiple categories and underscoring the country’s continuing influence on the continent’s music scene.

Wizkid took home the award for Best Afro‑R&B with his smooth collaboration “Piece of My Heart,” featuring U.S. singer Brent Faiyaz. The star‑studded night saw Davido share the Best Global Collaboration trophy with American R&B icon Chris Brown for their track “Hmm.”

Asake’s infectious banger “MMS,” featuring Wizkid, earned him the Best Afro‑Native award, while British‑Nigerian songstress Darkoo was named Best Diasporan Act for her breakout hit “Favourite Girl” (Remix) with Rema.

Burna Boy, fresh from global tours, was honoured as Overall Male Artist in Africa, and South African sensation Tyla claimed both Overall Female Artist and Best Female Artist, Southern Africa.

Rising star Tems was crowned Best Global African Female, and OdumoduBlvck took the prize for Best Rapper in West Africa. Street‑pop sensation Seyi Vibez captured Best Male Artist, West Africa, and Ayra Starr was voted Best Female Artist, West Africa.

The AAEA, now in its fifth year, celebrates the diversity and dynamism of African music. With Nigeria’s performers walking away with eight of the night’s major awards, the country’s creative energy continues to lead the way across the continent.
