The 2016 edition of the summit is the 2nd edition and having successfully hosted the 1st edition in 2015 in Lagos with the support of the US Consulate as one of the preparatory events towards UNGASS, 2015, we believe that Abuja will be the best location for the 2nd edition considering the high cases of drugs and substance abuse among young people in the northern part of the country.
The summit which is schedule to take place on the 26th -27th October, 2016, at the Former SGF Conference Hall, Federal Secretariat, Phase 1, Abuja, intends to bring together youth leaders and heads of youth focused NGOs spearheading the fight against drug, substance abuse and illicit trafficking within the country for the purpose of appraising the war against drug/substance abuse and illicit trafficking as it affects young people.
The Summit promises to create awareness on the dangers and repercussion associated with young people getting involved in drugs and substance abuse. It will also stimulate discussion on possible suggestions on prevention, policy formulation and implementation as it affects young people in the Nigeria in general.
The summit will create a platform for interaction and sharing of ideas on the level of youth participation in the fight against drugs and substance abuse and illicit trafficking in Nigeria and Africa. It will come up with communiqué and position paper on the possible solutions to drug/substance abuse and illicit trafficking in the overall development and wellbeing of young people in Nigeria which will be submitted to the regulatory authorities for consideration and actions.
