Tariye Gbadegesin Makes History as Climate Investment Funds’ First African CEO.

Tariye Gbadegesin, a Nigerian-US national, has been appointed as the chief executive officer (CEO) of Climate Investment Funds (CIF), marking the first time an African assumes this role.

Established in 2008, CIF mobilizes concessional finance for large-scale low-carbon, climate-resilient development and has secured over $64 billion in additional financing to date.

Gbadegesin, currently the CEO of ARM Harith Infrastructure Investments, a pan-African infrastructure fund, begins her tenure in March 2024. With over 20 years of experience in developing economy investments, she’ll lead one of the world’s major multilateral climate funds, committed to clean energy transitions, nature-based solutions, and resilience in 70+ developing nations.

Expressing her deep honor, Gbadegesin aims to amplify climate finance for developing countries, acknowledging their frontline role in the climate crisis. CIF’s Trust Fund Committee hailed her appointment after an extensive global recruitment drive featuring top climate leaders.
