Top 10 Habits That Are Detrimental To Your Looks

There are numerous factors that affect your health and appearance. Let’s look at the top ten causes that negatively affect your beauty.

10. LACK OF PROPER SLEEP

A good amount of restful sleep is imperative for maintenance of good looks. Sleep helps the body to recover from the wear and tear it faces during the day. Insomnia causes accelerated aging, heart problems, lower mental alertness and an increase in body weight due to improper metabolism. Hence, it is essential that you get at least 8 hours of sleep every night.

9. NON-REMOVAL OF COSMETICS

It is a well-known fact that most cosmetics contain chemicals that are harmful to your skin. It may not always be possible to avoid wearing makeup due to social and professional reasons. However, it is very important that you properly wash your face before going to bed as the makeup can clog up your pores which may cause breakouts on your skin.

8. DEHYDRATION

You are made up of around 60% water! Needless to say, your body needs ample amount of water to function properly. Water acts as a carrier of essential nutrients and is the primary cleanser of metabolic toxins. Drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day will keep your body and skin well hydrated and glowing.

7. UNWANTED STRESS

Professional commitments and goals of the modern age do put a lot of strain on our mental and emotional systems. However, an excessive amount of stress is harmful for your physical body as well and is the leading cause of a number of ailments. Stress causes the body to release Cortisol which is a stress combating hormone. However, the side effects of this hormone are fat retention, lower cell regeneration, sub optimal metabolic rate and impaired cognitive abilities. Thus, it is very important to get rid of excess amounts of stress by using relaxation techniques, exercise and mediation.

5. TOO MUCH ALCOHOL

Drinking too much is a sure fire way to make yourself look older. Drinking a reasonable amounts is fine but going on a daily binge will cause dehydration and dilation of blood vessels which tend to give your face an unpleasant appearance.

Intake of fast food followed by going on starvation mode depletes the vitamin and mineral levels in your system causing metabolic changes that negatively affect health.

If you want to lose weight, lose it the healthy way by having a well-balanced intake of good quality food every day. Increase the amount of greens and lean protein in your diet while cutting down on starch and red meat. This should suffice in helping you reduce weight without negatively affecting your health or appearance.

3. INADEQUATE EYE PROTECTION

If you do not wear shades when you go outdoors, your retina and eyelids will get exposed to highly damaging UV rays which cause faster aging and ugly skin wrinkles. Hence, it is essential to wear sunglasses during the day.
