Benin-Owena River Basin Development Authority (BORBDA) is a parastatal under the Federal Ministry of Water Resources.

BORBDA as an agency of the Federal Government is poised more than ever to ensure that Government policies are translated into actionable agricultural programs. In so doing, the Authority is positioned to meet the new challenges for a balanced integrated planning and sustainable agricultural development.

Pilot Integrated Songhai Farm

The Benin Owena River Basin Development Authority Songhai integrated farm model is tailored after the Songhai Model farming practice in Benin Republic. Its aim is to establish an integrated organic farming to enhance food and animal production using sustainable methods as well as to serve as training center for Nigerian youths interested in modern farming techniques.

The project commenced in December, 2017 at Obayantor which is the Administrative headquarters of the Authority with an initial pilot program of 50 hectares of land and an additional 25 hectares of oil palm plantation already in production.

The project is compartmentalized where each crop would cover one hectare each as follows:

  2. Livestock
  3. Crops
  4. Aquaculture
  5. E-processing and general services (road network, water tower, security post, Admin unit, sales point, canteen, dormitory and Biogas unit.

Recently, the management of the Authority invited members of the public, especially academics from various higher institutions to demonstrate the activities of the Songhai integrated farm project whilst also exploring partnership and collaboration opportunities.
