The Nigeria Natural Medicine Development agency (NNMDA) was established in 1997 to enable the Federal Government of Nigeria through Federal Ministry of Science & Technology (FMST) actualize its critical and strategic mandate to research, develop, document. Preserve, conserve and promote Nigeria’s Natural Medicine (Traditional/indigenous Healthcare systems, medications and non-medications healing arts, science & Technology) and assist facilitate their integration into the National Healthcare Delivery System. As well as contribute to the Nation’s wealth and job creation, socio-economic growth and development effort.
- Development of a Library/ICT
- Digital Identification and Documentation of Medicinal, Aromatic and Pesticidals Plants (MAPPs), Animal/Animal Parts and Minerals used in Traditional Medicine.
- Observational Studies of Herbal Therapies for Tropical Diseases including HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, Malaria, diabetes etc. This is aimed at the development observational studies and provision of scientific evidence base for herbal therapies for topical ailments.

- Cultivation and Conservation Pesticidal Plants.
- Collation and Documentation of Published Research Works and Findings on Traditional Medicine Knowledge and Practices (TMKP), Products and Medicinal, Aromatic and Pesticidal Plants (MAPPs) Indigenous to Nigeria.
- Development of Pilot/Experimental Medicinal, Aromatic and Pesticidals (MAPs) Plant Farms/Nurseries in the Six Geopolitical Zones.
- Development of Herbarium and Pilot Experimental Plants Farms/Gardens.
- Laboratory and Pilot Production Unit Development (PDU) (Primary Efficacy and Safety Analysis).
- Ethno-medicinal survey in 6 geopolitical zones of the country and ecological zones of the country with a view to developing a comprehensive national inventory of Medicinal Aromatic and Pesticidal and Plants (MAPs) of the country to aid further research, training & learning and facilitate sustainable availability of raw materials for the development of traditional medicine industrial sector of the economy.
