Mowe’s New Solar Hub: Tranos Ushers in 800 MW PV Factory.

Tranos, a homegrown manufacturing pioneer, has broken ground on a 157,440 m² solar panel campus in Mowe, Ogun State, set to produce 800 megawatts of photovoltaic (PV) modules annually. The ceremony, graced by officials from the Ogun State Energy Office and the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), heralds a leap forward for Nigeria’s clean‑energy ambitions.

The sprawling site will replace Tranos’s Lagos operations, overcoming space constraints with modern production lines. An initial 400 MW assembly line will begin operations within 15–18 months, with a second line scheduled to double output by 2027.

“Building solar panels here at home slashes our reliance on imports and strengthens our energy security,” said Tranos CEO Adewale Salami. “This factory will create hundreds of skilled jobs and power communities across Nigeria.”

Staffing will swell from the current 160 to roughly 400 over two years, spanning roles in assembly, quality assurance, R&D and logistics. Local suppliers of glass, aluminum framing and electronics stand to benefit as Tranos embeds itself further into Ogun’s industrial landscape.

The new facility dovetails with national targets to expand renewable capacity and improve electricity access. REA Director-General Emeka Okafor noted, “By localizing production, we not only bring down costs but also build a complete solar ecosystem—from panels to mounting systems—right here in Nigeria.”

As solar demand rises in homes, businesses and rural clinics, Tranos’s Mowe campus promises to lower prices, speed installations, and spark downstream industries. This landmark investment sets a template for public‑private partnerships and underscores Nigeria’s growing role in Africa’s energy transition.
