Mr Osinbajo has not played any major role in Mr Tinubu’s campaign since the candidate defeated the vice president and other aspirants to clinch the APC presidential ticket.
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo Wednesday evening visited Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at the latter’s home in Abuja.
Mr Osinbajo has not played any major role in Mr Tinubu’s campaign since the candidate defeated the vice president and other aspirants to clinch the APC presidential ticket for next year’s election.
There have also been rumours that both men have fallen out since the electioneering for the APC ticket began.
However, Mr Tinubu visited the vice president after he won the APC primary to seek his support.
The presidency had also said that it was President Muhammadu Buhari who asked that Mr Osinbajo and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, be excused from campaign activities so they can focus on governance.
The details of Wednesday’s meeting between both men have not been made public.
However, photos shared from the meeting showed that the APC vice presidential candidate, Kashim Shettima, was also present at the meeting.
Mr. Tinubu, in a tweet via his Twitter handle, said the two discussed important national issues.
“I, alongside my running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima, this evening received Vice President Yemi Osinbajo @ProfOsinbajo at my Abuja residence. We shared time discussing some important national issues,” the tweet reads.
Mr Osinbajo served as attorney general and commissioner of justice in Lagos State under Mr Tinubu, when the latter was governor of the state.
Also, many believe that the vice president was nominated by his former boss to serve as running mate to Mr Buhari in 2015.
The vice president, a pastor at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, has also been quiet on the same faith ticket that his party opted for.
Some Christian members of the party, particularly those from the North have openly opposed the ticket with some leaving the party.
Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara and others adopted the candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, while others, including a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, endorsed Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP).
