BE THE FIRST INTERNATIONAL PLUS SIZE MODEL IN AFRICA
The Plus-size Fashion Week Africa (PFWA) team is opening a window of opportunity for all plus size
models in Africa. The winner of the modelling competition would be one of the headlining models at the
first ever Plus-size Fashion Week in Africa and also a modelling contract with an international modelling
company in the UK.
Plus-size Fashion Week Africa (PFWA) is a first of its kind fashion runway show that highlights plus size
models and apparels. The event is set to hold on Sunday, September 2, 2017 at the Main Banquet Hall of
the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos. The event will feature a plus size runway fashion show, plus-size
modelling competition and exhibition booths to create a unique shopping experience for consumers.
PFWAfrica is aimed at maximising the growing focus on the plus-size fashion industry and also the
promotion of the African culture. This maiden edition is themed: “Celebrating the Real African Woman”.
If you are a plus size model or you have what it takes to be a plus size model be sure to attend the
audition on Saturday 8, July, 2017 at Villa Angelia Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos from 11am.
Ladies who are 18 and above from sizes 12 – 20 are invited to enter the competition.
Asides the fashion show another major highlight of the event is the search for “Africa’s next plus-sized model”. Successful participants at the auditions will grace the stage at the PFWAfrica and will also be signed, trained and developed by a renowned Modelling Agency. International modelling exposure will also be gotten through our partner Modelling Agency. The plus size modelling competition will start form 8th of July, 2017.
The Plus-size Fashion Week Africa was birthed out of the need to stop the stigmatisation and body shaming of the plus-sized woman, we believe that every woman should be comfortable in her skin and body regardless of what the society thinks as long as they are healthy.
Opening in Lagos for the first time is the only fashion runway show ever dedicated to Plus Size Models and Apparels. In the light of realities, this will be the first TRULY AFRICAN fashion runway show! African culture celebrates the healthy looking plus sized woman. She is the everyday woman in the African Office, Shop, Marketplace and on the streets.
Western Fashion Trends has tended to alienate the plus sized African woman, almost to the point of stigmatising her body size. This fact has tended to question the integrity of conventional African Fashion runways with ‘zero’ sized models strutting the runways being viewed by audiences, 85% of whom are plus sized! This tended to create a divide, between the audience and the fashion show.
To Bridge this gap and put the real needs of the average African woman on the runway, the Plus-size Fashion Week is finally born, thus bringing an African Fashion Feel to an African Audience.
The Plus-size Fashion Week is poised to celebrate the African Woman’s Body, while not excluding zero sized and other sized models and apparels as well. It also not a female exclusive fashion show, male apparels and models are also to be showcased.
Plus-size Fashion Week Africa isproduced by Mahogany Productions & Events and YD Agency in partnershippowered by SR Capital EM.
