STEM2020: STEM in Africa conference powered by Medplus Pharmacy creates opportunities for disadvantaged children.

In a bid to encourage interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), Medplus Pharmacy Nigeria partnered with STEM in Africa (SIA) at its just concluded conference, themed “Identifying and Breaking Barriers”. The conference focused on promoting interest in science through exciting experiments and workshops for disadvantaged children, which held simultaneously at 3 different locations; Medplus Pharmacy Lekki, CIS Lekki and Connoisseurs Ikoyi, Lagos from 10am till 2pm on Thursday, July 16, 2020, ensuring all COVID-19 protocols were duly observed.

With the continuous expansion of STEM in the 21st century, SIA’s stated mission is majorly to help and empower young people on the continent and build the next generation of leaders, as science and technology plays a key role in sustaining growth and stability of all economies.

Speaking at the event, Marketing Manager, Medplus Pharmacy Nigeria, Senami Atika, explained that Medplus is not just committed to helping their customers feel or look good but the brand is also committed to create opportunities for those excluded by social disadvantages.

“As we are all are getting used to the new normal, the importance of STEM has become very significant especially in the 21st century where scientific and technological innovations are the order of the day and it is very important to support kids to develop capabilities in STEM skills as it required to compete in a global economy. We are happy to partner with SIA and its even more exciting to see the kid’s reactions during the experiments and the brand look forward to doing more of these in the future.” Atika said.

Fara Bakare, Founder of SIA added that “Based on my relentless commitment to this cause, I had the urge to carry on with the conference despite our current situation because I believe even after the lockdown has been totally lifted, some children would still not have access to learn for months coming and lack of interaction can easily lead to a build of frustration resulting in mental health issues. Hence, it is important to give these children a chance to educate themselves and interact with others whilst all COVID-19 protocols were duly observed.”
