ICAN Recognizes YABATECH’s Longstanding Impact on the Accounting Profession
Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) has been awarded the 2025 Corporate Merit Award by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN). The award was conferred during ICAN’s annual awards and dinner night held recently in Lagos.
Institutional Leadership Acknowledged at Prestigious Event
Receiving the award on behalf of the institution, Dr. Ibraheem Abdul, Rector of YABATECH, expressed his appreciation to ICAN for recognizing organizations and individuals who have played pivotal roles in advancing the accounting profession in Nigeria.
Dr. Abdul highlighted the significance of the recognition, noting that YABATECH was uniquely celebrated for its contributions to training a large number of the country’s accountants and chartered professionals.
Historic Role in ICAN’s Journey
During the ceremony, ICAN emphasized YABATECH’s historical role in hosting the institute’s first professional examination. The college was also praised for producing accounting graduates who attain chartered status even before completing their degree programs.
Alumni Recognition Adds Meaning to Award Presentation
Chief Davidson Alaribe, ICAN’s 60th President and a proud alumnus of YABATECH, presented the award personally. In his remarks, he stated, “My rector, I am both presenting and receiving the award as a proud product of this great college,” reflecting a deep sense of pride and continuity.
Commitment to Excellence Reaffirmed
Dr. Abdul, in his acceptance speech, reaffirmed YABATECH’s ongoing commitment to developing the accounting profession in Nigeria. He pledged that the institution would continue to uphold standards of excellence and contribute meaningfully to the wider society.
Distinguished Attendees and Honorees Grace the Ceremony
The event attracted several notable personalities, including Pa George Okufi, the first indigenous Rector of YABATECH and the founding Registrar/CEO of ICAN. Also in attendance were His Royal Majesty, Obasanya Olufolarin Ogunsanwo, the Alara of Ilara, and the Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, who accepted an award on behalf of the state’s governor. Prof. Ademola Tayo, Vice-Chancellor of Babcock University, was among other honorees receiving the ICAN Distinguished Service Merit Award.
