Organizer of 30TH ALL NIGERIAN ROTARACTORS CONFERENCE
Rotaract Club was founded on the 13th of March at Charlotte North Rotary Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA in 1968 as a youth arm of Rotary International. “Rotaract” stands for “Rotary in Action”, although the name originally comes from a combination of “Rotary” and “Interact” (International + Action), the high school level program created by Rotary International in 1962.
After the success on Interact club for high school age youth in the early 1960’s the RI board created Rotaract in 1968. The new organization was design to promote responsible citizenship and leadership potentials in clubs of young men and women, aged 18-30, dedicated to giving young people across the world both collective voice and the mechanism to support global sustainable development, at the district and international levels, through the provision of educational resources, leadership opportunities, and a global network to support young people in developing entrepreneurial projects and campaigns to address global issues, while promoting ethical standards social equity, environmental quality, economic sustainability, cross cultural and intergenerational partnerships with strategic initiatives within the Rotary International, United Nations member states and agencies, IGOs, NGOs, Government missions, institutions and most importantly local youth led organizations.
It is a service, leadership and community service organization for young men and women between the ages 18–30. Rotaract focuses on the development of young adults as leaders in their communities and workplaces. Clubs around the world also take part in international service projects, in a global effort to bring peace and international understanding to the world.
The first Rotaract club was chartered by the Rotary club of Charlotte North Caroline, USA in 1998. Currently, there are 139,000 members in more than 6,000 Rotaract clubs in 139 countries. Rotaract clubs emphasize the importance of individual responsibility at the basis of personnel success and community involvement. Each club is required to complete at least two major service projects each year, one to serve the community and the other to promote international outstanding. Rotaract also provides international opportunities leading to a greater leadership and as programs to improve their communities. A Rotaract club can exist only when continuously sponsored, guided and counseled by a Rotary club and other partner organizations. The program of Rotaract are built around the motor ‘Fellowship through service’’.
