Off Page SEO: Three-Way Links

A three way link exchange involves a link exchange between two webmasters whereby one of the parties own more than a website, such that each executes a one way link to each site involved in the transaction.

Lets say webmaster 1 owns site A and B whle webmaster 2 owns site C. They exchange mails and agree on a link exchange after they have checked each other out and decide they want to go ahead with the transaction.
Webmaster 1 then links to site C from site A while webmaster 2 links to site B from site C. The end result is a three-way link, a one-way link from A to C and from C to B. Both recipient sites receive a one-way link.

Another variation is if both webmasters have more than one site. Each of their sites get to receive a one way link. One is not sure if the search engines are fooled by this stunt, but it is worth a try if the sites involved are good quality sites that have a strategic fit for the benefit of visitors.

This has been a condensed crash course of SEO. These are the basics but this is where you will get most of your results. Often people want to make things appear harder then they really are. The truth is, it really isn’t that hard. Don’t let the guru’s and experts out there fool you into thinking you have to buy the latest and greatest software to rank well, the fact is, tools just make the process easier, but the process remains the same.

The most important think is to get going, as you gain confidence as you go along, and soon you will become an expert in your own right. Try your hands on different things and find out what works for your site. Test and measure the results. You can subscribe to SEO newsletters, join webmaster forums and gain fresh insights to latest trends in the industry.

SEO is not glamorous and the work is repetitive and sometimes boring. Sometimes you will write a webmaster and even link to their site without a response back. Keep going. Keep the links that are valuable to your visitors, whether the other party links back or not.

Ask politely. Adding a link to their site puts the other webmaster in a better frame of mind to respond favorably to your request, especially if you are approaching the webmaster of a site much bigger than yours. Don't give up hope when you dont get a response after some days. Some webmasters are very busy, and have tons of mail to go through on a daily basis added to the daily chore of maintaining their sites.

It will make your job easier to design a mail template so that you will not have to draft a new mail for every site you want to get in touch with. Make sure you visit each site and check it out (both content and resource/link pages) to be sure this is the type of site you want to exchange links with. Get the name of the site owner/webmaster and address him in person, making a specific comment about the site to show that you actually took time out to visit.

Have fun. Some mean webmasters will drop your link after the link exchange. To guard against this, some folks buy a link checker to monitor their links after the transaction, and retaliate when their link is dropped. Operating from Nigeria, you may not have the payment method to acquire something this fancy. Just relax, and have the interest of your visitors uppermost in your mind, then you will not get so upset over the stunts other webmasters pull.

Keep doing the right thing, and seek to serve your visitors to the best of your ability. This is the surest way to win at the search engines and smile all the way to the bank
