Pay Per Click (PPC) Advertising

This involves placing your advert on another site (advertising) whereby you are billed based on how many people click through to your site.

This is a quick, easy and effective tool to get instant traffic for your website, email mini-courses and reports, and to start building a mailing/membership list. The key is your return on investment, making more money than you are spending in the final analysis.

Free publicity is always the best publicity, but you can buy traffic and still make a profit. By advertising through Adwords (and Yahoo), you can easily drive traffic to your website, email mini-course landing page for as low as 10 to 15 cents a click. After that, it comes down to the quality of your sales pitch which will determine your conversion rate (subscriptions).

Measuring the effectiveness of a PPC campaign for something that is free (and makes money through commissions from the affiliate links embedded in it) is a bit difficult, so it is better to use this strategy for an information resource site, e-commerce site or affiliate marketing site. You can also use it as a forward investment to start a full-fledged newsletter (building your mailing list, if you have a definite way of ultimately making money from your newsletter. That way, you are building a list of subscribers that can be marketed to time and time again (as the saying goes, the money is in the list).

PPC advertising is profitable when you are earning more from the traffic than you’re spending to acquire it. In numbers, this means that if your product (e.g. e-book) is selling for N3,000 and you are spending about $0.10 a click on Google Adwords (N20, using an exchange rate of 1: 100), a site conversion rate of 1% (1 out of 100 visitors buy your book) will mean that you are earning N3,000 for every $10 (N1,000) spent – a profit of $20 (N2,000) per sale. In this case, advertising on Google Adwords is a good deal for you, without sweating it out on free traffic. You can use your profit to finance a bigger ad campaign, resulting in bigger profit margins.

On top of this, some visitors out of the 100 also subscribe to your mailing list or newsletter, or click through your affiliate links to your partner websites, increasing your profits. An additional benefit of PPC advertising is that you don’t have to wait for anyone to promote your site. This method can bring you instant traffic. One of the best resources on PPC advertising is Perry Marshall’s Guide to Google Adwords. If you’re going into PPC advertising, make sure you read that book first (it’s kind of like the beginners guide to Adwords). The key thing is getting mosrt value for your money (paying a good price and drawing high quality traffic).
