Website Update and Maintenance in Nigeria

After publishing your website, you need to check that everything is working properly before you start promoting your site and submitting to search engines and directories to bring in traffic.

Check every link to confirm it is not a dead/broken link (giving you a 404 file not found error) and forms to confirm the scripts are working.

Apart from manually clicking on every link on your site (if you have a few pages), you can view to error log of your control panel to view a report on broken links. Another way to detect broken links on your site is to run a free broken links checker online (Google search "free broken links checker" and select one of your choice. The amount of free things on the internet is amazing). It will generate a report od all broken links on your site.

If you designed the site yourself, you will know how to troubleshoot and fix every problem (more or less), and if it was designed for you, you have to call on the designers, and hope they respond in a timely fashion.

Depending on the type of site and type of business you intend to run, you will have to update information on your site. If you are selling stuff, you will need to change product information and graphics as some products run out of stock, and new ones come in. For a content site, you may need to update existing content and add new ones. Also sometimes, prices change and the site needs to be updated, or you want to run a new promo on the front page. If you are depending on an outsider for these updates, sometimes you will be dissapointed. The speed of update of your website will be affected, and in some instances, you will get to miss opportunities due to slow response.

Site update and maintenance is a continuous exercise if you are to respond appropriately to market place dynamics, and keep your site ranking higher in search engines and attracting moe and more visitors.
