Who doesn’t love a good bucket list?

If you are someone who likes to round up check marks and cross off to-dos, then this might be the list for you…especially if you are rounding the corner to 30 years of age.

Something interesting happens to people when they cross over into their 30s: they stop making time for fun. They get serious. They settle down.

But the fun doesn’t have to stop and you can learn a thing or two from some of these movies as you prepare for life in your 30s.

Here are 12 movies you need to watch before you turn the big three zero.

1) Lady Bird

If you love a good coming-of-age tale, especially as you come to terms with your own “coming of age” as you near 30, then this is the movie for you.

Despite the main characters being high schoolers, it’s easy to put yourself in their shoes as their lives change and they figure out what life is all about.

2) Wonder Woman

If you like your superhero movies but are tired of the fellas getting all the glory, check out Wonder Woman.

A modern nod to the classic comic book character and television show, this movie is epic in design and delivery. Plus, who doesn’t love movies that make you want to quit your job and become a superhero?

It’s a good film for motivating you to do that thing you really want to do in life.

3) La La Land

If you can’t resist a musical love story, check out La La Land. You’ll love the colors and sounds and the characters start to feel like the friends you never had.

4) Legally Blonde

Sure, it’s a bit of an oldie, but if Elle can rock a courtroom, there’s nothing you can’t do if you put your heart into it.

5) You’ve Got Mail

How come Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks never hooked up in real life? They would have been the cutest couple.

This classic movie will seem hilarious to millennials who grew up on technology, but it’s fun to watch as the two characters find themselves, and each other, online.

6) Forrest Gump

Another Tom Hanks classic, Forrest Gump is one of the greatest movies of all time and if you haven’t seen it, put it on your to-do list.

It’s a walk through history through the eyes of a character that happened to be present for a lot of it. Fact meets fiction and you can’t help but wonder if the movie isn’t about a real person. What a life it would have been!

7) Spotlight

For something a little edgier, check out Spotlight.

This movie features some big names and takes on a really controversial time in the Catholic church across America that continues to have implications today.

It’s past and it is about present and it delivers on suspense and will make you question what you think you know.

8) Silver Linings Playbook

If you are feeling stuck and unmotivated in your life, watch Silver Linings Playbook.

This film features Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper and together they figure out that life is not all that it seems – it’s what you make it.

9) Mean Girls

When this movie came out, bullying was just starting to be a hot topic across the nation.

Now it’s considered a timely film about how cruel high schoolers can be to one another.

These things might not seem shocking now, but when the world was first talking about bullying, it was a big deal.

10) The Lord of the Rings – All of them or Any of Them

If you watch one epic movie in your lifetime, let it be The Lord of the Rings.

If for no other purpose than to be able to engage in the conversations people are STILL having about this movie series, watch it. You won’t be disappointed.

The scenery alone is worth catching this nearly 10-hour film series.

11) 10 Things I Hate About You

This film features some of Hollywood’s biggest actors now, but then they were all just sort of starting out. The late Heath Ledger is a badass and adorable in this movie.

A young Joseph Gordon-Levitt is quirky and cute and a bitter Julia Stiles is hard to resist when she decides to give in to her feelings for Ledger.

Plus the musical scene in the football stadium is worth tuning in for and will make you want to find a guy who would sing to you in public.

12) American Beauty

If you aren’t sure what you are looking at when the movie starts, you’re not alone and yes, that is a plastic bag. This one was way out of left field but critics still talk about it today.
