Career

Lost or nears in ten years? What are the future jobs to come?

Things are changing and economies are developing. You just can’t do anything about it. And as it happens, employment will also improve. In 10 years, approximately half of jobs will be transformed by automation – but only 5 percent will be removed. Nine out of ten jobs would need digital skills. Youthful, close to zero-skilled and disadvantaged people – all will need to be helped by upskilling.

Even as the economy thrives, some jobs begin to disappear as the changing job environment pushes them backward.

Those Will Be Gone…

Let’s imagine that we have moved 10 years in time and came along seeking for the job board. We will not see the usual vacancies for which there are almost no offers, such as:

  • Drivers
  • Farmers
  • Postal workers
  • Broadcasters
  • Printers and publishers
  • Cashiers
  • Delivery
  • Travel agents
  • Dispatchers
  • Telemarketers
  • Social media professionals
  • Manufacturing workers

These professions are just the tip of a vanished iceberg that we are unlikely to see in the future.

For example –  a  Driver could and would be demanded, but when the transition occurs, it’s not just our own personal vehicles that will be automatic. City buses, lengthy 18-wheelers, trucks and so on will also become robotic. Self-driving vehicles are just a few years out.

Same with the farmers, It’s not like all farms will vanish in 10 years, but their position will decrease, as we have seen in the past generation or two.  Technology makes it possible for less people to generate more crops, and it is possible that indoors agriculture and perhaps even in vitro meat will become increasingly popular. Rather than anything the new batch of farmers might resemble scientists and biologists.

A call to action!

As Jerry Kaplan of Stanford University says it won’t be that long until “humans don’t really need to apply”. But don’t be scared of the future, simply to keep abreast of the time and go hand in hand with it, and you will not become useless.

As mentioned above, a digital skills will require 90% of the work so don’t delay and start studying the IT industry now.

Surprisingly you will see on the board such as those vacancies as:

  • carbon growers
  • 3D printing engineers
  • character creators
  • bitcoin judges
  • drone jockeys
  • human organ creators
  • English language teachers for robotics
  • robot spa operators
  • algae producers
  • autonomous fleet valets
  • snapchat addiction clinicians
  • virtual vertical farmers
  • hyperloop development administrators

It actually looks like a fantasy movie, but you won’t have time to blink as it becomes a reality.

On the other hand if we look more down to earth, we can identify potential needs for workers in such industries as – AI business development manager, end-of-life planner, facilitator for IT, professional ‘triber’, manager of the genomic portfolio, virtual reality experience designer or even augmented reality journey builder.

Head is spinning when you think about this, but you still need to be realistic and understand that technology does not stand still, and, accordingly, we should not either.

History teaches us that in a way, the job market generates employment opportunities whenever it eliminates any existing ones. Although it’s simple to see how the overall labor market might shrink dramatically, and undoubtedly many of the employment that remain today won’t exist in a decade or two, it’s still very easy to see countless new jobs being developed. So don’t get upset and move on!
