Wilfred Ndidi: The Hard-Tackling Player that every team needs.

Since arriving at Leicester City in the summer transfer window of 2016, Wilfred Ndidi has become a regular in the Foxes’ starting team. In the Nigerian midfielder’s first four seasons in the Premier League, he has undoubtedly made a name for himself as one of the division’s top-tackling players, along with N’Golo Kante. So, let’s take a look at why Ndidi has been linked with moves to some of Europe’s top clubs, including Arsenal, Manchester United, and Paris Saint-Germain.

Establishing Himself as One of the Premier league’s Best

After signing for Claudio Ranieri’s side for £15 million from Genk, the 23-year-old has continuously raised his game season after season. At the very start of his career at the King Power Stadium, Ndidi was under little pressure to hit the heights with Nampalys Mendy initially being identified as the player to replace Chelsea-bound Kante. However, since the Frenchman’s departure, the Nigerian has grown into the Premier League-winning midfielder’s successor.

During the 2019-20 campaign, Ndidi demonstrated that he had developed into far more than Kante’s replacement and that he was a top-quality player in his own right. According to Squawka’s comparison matrix, when analysed alongside Declan Rice and Fabinho, the Nigerian was clearly operating at a world-class level. Regarding ball recoveries, the 23-year-old made 271 in 32 matches.

Liverpool’s Brazilian midfielder, on the other hand, registered 156 in 28 games, while Rice recorded 312, albeit in six more appearances. Furthermore, last season, Ndidi also made 129 tackles and 80 interceptions, more than both Fabinho and the England international.

The Midfielder May Have His Eyes on Winning Major Honours

As mentioned above, over the past few seasons, Ndidi has caught the eye of a wide array of Europe’s elite clubs. While, at the time of writing, there is nothing to suggest that the 23-year-old is unhappy at the King Power Stadium, a player of his ability deserves to play in the Champions League. Should the midfielder continue to assert his dominance on matches regarding regaining possession and making all-important ball recoveries, then it may only be a matter of time before a financially-powerful club test the Foxes’ resolve for English football’s top-tackling defensive midfielder

Furthermore, when the 2022 FIFA World Cup comes around, the Leicester midfielder will undoubtedly be in Nigeria’s plans for the competition. Come the start of the tournament, Ndidi will only be 25 and approaching the peak of his career. Based on his recent development, the Lagos-born player could be one of the world’s best in his position in 2022, and will unquestionably be central to Nigeria’s chances at the tournament, particularly with international football betting pricing them at 100/1 to win the World Cup, as of September 14th, 2020.

Brendan Rodgers Has a Top Talent on His Hands

For Leicester and Nigeria supporters, Ndidi’s talent isn’t something that has only recently become apparent. For the last four years, the 23-year-old has performed to a very high level and has rightfully received widespread plaudits. Although the Foxes are promising another encouraging season in 202-21, Brendan Rodgers will be hoping that he’ll be able to retain Ndidi for the long term, even if Leicester miss out on top-level European football once again.
