Headies Expands Into Continental Award As 15th Edition Holds At $145m Centre In Atlanta.

The Headies Award that has grown to become Nigeria’s biggest and most prestigious music award show in over a decade, is expanding its scope beyond Nigeria for the 15th edition as it is adding new award categories to honour music artistes from across Africa. 

Headies, the longest-running music award show in Nigeria, announced the date, venue, and new additions to the 15th edition in Lagos on Tuesday, March 1, 2022.

Organisers have introduced six new categories for the 15th Headies award. They include Music Executive of the Year, Best Afrobeat Pop Single (Nigeria), Best Afrobeat Pop Album (Nigeria), Best African Collaboration, Best International Collaboration, African Artiste of the Year.

As it grows into a continental award, organisers say the 15th edition will be held outside Nigeria for the first time in 16 years. The event will hold at the Cobbs Energy Performing Arts Centre, a $145 million facility opened on September 15, 2007, in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

The main theatre of the centre can sit 2,750 guests while its 10,000-square-foot ballroom, divisible into three sections, holds up to 630 for a seated meal, 800 in a theatre setting and up to 650 for a reception. The centre’s parking deck can accommodate 1,000 vehicles.

Hit zombie series – The Walking Dead, Parental Guidance, Netflix’s Dumplin are some of the movies that have been shot at the Centre.

The Headies say doors will be open to receive entries from March 8 to April 12, 2022.
