Making Money with Google AdSense in Nigeria
You have built a unique site, promoted it and have been adding useful unique content regularly. Traffic is begining to build (you can check this out be taking a look at traffic statistics by clicking on the Web/FTP Stats icon in your CPanel), and then select Awstats (if available) or Webalizer).
The first step is to register with Google AdSense.
Click on and follow the instructions, which will include giving your name and contact details, and website address. The AdSense Team will check out your site to confirm that it complies with AdSense program policies (usually within 24 - 48 hours). Note that the moment you submit your address, you cannot change your name or country of residence. You can only change address and phone/fax numbers.
If your application is successful (which is normaly the case if your site fulfils AdSense program policies), you can then sign in with the email address and password you supplied at registration. You can then click on the AdSense set up tab and follow the instructions to select the ad format and colours that will fit your site.
You need profitable, keyword-focused content to make any serious money with AdSense (or tons of traffic if your keywords are not that profitable). This is how it works. Let's take the keyword "fish farming" for the purpose of illustration. The system works like an auction, and the highest bidder's adverts get to show up, in this case on the site about fish farming (Google has the technology to instantly crawl the site to determine what the main keywords are, and show adverts relating to that keyword - though they don't get it dont get right 100% of the time).
Now a fish farmer that wants to advertise on Google Adsense sign up in Google Adwords (which is for advertisers) and indicate the price he is willing to pay for click (and also per thousand impressions/views if he also wants that option). The system now collates the bids in descending order, with the highest bidder on top. These adverts are fed to the sites about fish farming in this order, as the first bidder's budget is exhausted, the second highest bidder takes his place.
So ultimately, the competition among advertisers determines the cost per click (the higher the competition, the higher (and more profitable) the keyword. Google pays you a percentage of the ammount they collect from the advertiser, and the revenue sharing formula is a well kept secret. There are theories about how to figure out how profitable a keyword is. Our recommedation is to follow your passion and diversify your site theme as you go, instead of pursuing profitable keywords. What if you find out that "heart attack" is a very profitable keyword, does it mean you will abandon your lane and start building a site about heart attack? It makes sense if you are going nowhere, but if you have focus and long term goals, all you need to do is follow your dream. If you don't get to make tons of money with AdSense, you can make money from the other streams of income (affiliate marketing, banner advertising, developing your product and selling from your site etc.)
