Mela Game Reserve

Ikoyogen-Hills-Benue

This is a private game reserve owned by Mr. Matthew Mela, a hunter and a lover of nature. The Mela Game Reserve is a genuine effort at recreating and rediscovering the beauty of the Garden of Eden and a challenge to modern zoologists.

The various wild animals in the reserve now domesticated by their host live together with the family of Mr. Matthew Mela. Being a hunter, the need to capture animals alive instead of killing them struck him in 1963; while hunting in the small village of Echinge in Benue State.

He therefore started the collection of monkeys, tortoise, crocodiles, wild rats, turkey, guinea fowls and other birds. The location is more than a game reserve. It is a fascinating community of man and other animals, created by a feeling of love and tolerance.
