The new yam festival is the most popular in nearly the entire yam producing peoples of the state, stretching from Akamkpa to Obudu. The period of celebration runs from August to October of every year.
The month and date for the celebration varies from one locality to the other depending on their planting seasons. This colourful ceremony is a period for thanksgiving.
