Ever pictured Lagos without beaches? It would probably seem a little small and solitary. Thank gracious the beaches are part of the howling Lagos life that attracts visitors from all over the world. The city offers both private and public beaches to assert its inclination to fun and relaxation even more. If you don’t have a phobia for the ocean and the sight of it screams fun, here are five beaches that are peachy and why they make the cut.

BAR BEACHLocated along Victoria Island on Ahmadu Bello Way, Bar Beach is a very popular beach in Lagos. It is known for its sand, bars, and extends from the west by the Institute of Oceanography all the way through Eko Hotel towards the east. Blocks of concrete act as artificial levees to keep back the Atlantic which often floods its banks in a hostile manner.

The beach is a point of attraction for people from diverse walks of life where they enjoy the cool Atlantic breeze on hot humid days. There are no coconut trees or plants around, but it’s not a bad spot for fruit lovers as fresh fruits are always on sale. There are definitely exciting activities for sport enthusiasts such as horseback riding along the shores, swimming, volleyball, beach soccer among other popular beach sports.

It is very likely you might be tempted to jump in the sea on a sunny day to swim or surf, but these are strongly discouraged because of the strong seething currents.

While the Bar Beach may not be disposed to the surrealistic imagery of the Caribbean beaches, it is the coolest among locals and travellers. CAUTION*: *Daredevils seldom get lucky with the devilish waves of the Bar Beach.
