Kwartarkwashi Rock / Water Spring

Kwartarkwashi Rock/Water Spring

This is a massive rock that is about 350 meters above sea level. It is located in Kotarkoshi town about twelve kilometres from Gusau.

It was the site of a powerful spirit who accepts the Ishoki (spirit) worship and inspires the Daukar Maiki (catching the eagle) in which a live eagle was caught annually from the top of the rock and presented to the leader of the community.

This crystal clear spring gushes out as it adds beauty to the Kwartarkwashi rock. The rock’s history dates as far back as Kwatarkwashi town itself.

Attraction to the rock is hinged on the spiritual significance which the rock possesses. However, the embrace of Islam which is the domineering religion in Northern Nigeria has eroded this belief. However, Kwartarkwashi Rock/water spring still attracts visitors from different parts of Nigeria and indeed the world.
