This is a good place to start, for a rookie venturing into the world of online business.
Information resource sites feature information and useful resources for the benefit of visitors. You normally do not need to register before you can browse through these site. Basically with this type of site, you and providing information, without any attempt to sell anything. It is more or less a labour of love.
However with the advent of Google Adsense etc, it is easy to make money through content, if you have decent traffic. With guides or sites about the history of your village, there is a narrow range of adverts you can place on that site to make money. The adverts have to align with the theme of the site. That is one of the main reasons Google Adsense is dominant in this market, the technology to crawl a site to serve relevant adverts.
This category of websites is very broad, and range from sites that need constant updating (e.g. news, stock, forex, jobs) to sites that need minimal updating (e.g. historical information, guides etc).
However note that it is fresh content that brings repeat visitors in most cases (except directories, whereby visitors cannot digest all the information at one go, and have to keep coming back). After visitors have gone through your site, and read all the interesting content, upon return, if they still meet same old stuff time and time again, off they go in search of something new, and may never return. This is why it is critical for each site to have a webmaster manning it.
