Uzo-Iyi Festival

Umuoji is a town located in idemili north area of anambra state in south east region, which has about twenty five villages in it, there is one of cultures which made umuoji to be popular in the whole south eastern region especially in anambra state which is known as (UZO IYI) translated in English as way of an oath, this event normally takes place in march in every afor (Third day of the week in Igbo) first Sunday of every year.

The Uzoiyi Annual Festival is a show of the rich cultural festival of the Igbo’s with the unique attributes of the people of Umuoji.
The age long festival was aimed at appreciating God for the bountiful harvest of the previous year as well as soliciting for his blessing as another farming season sets in.
The Masquerades of Uzoiyi festival consists mainly of Animal Masquerades drawn from the twenty three villages of the community and the animal Masquerades 66+display attributes which the life animals are known for.
The Elephant Masquerades known as Enyi Abidi by the native for the first time featured with a baby Elephant while the Omambala sailor from Akala Etiti village among other masquerades displayed uniqueness of a sailor.

This event always drew multitudes of people from different states and Umuojians, at large together, both people from abroad and also. It is an event that makes it possible to see many people especially those you haven’t seen for a long time, it could be your relations, friend, classmate, age mate etc.
