His Majesty king (Dr.) Dandeson Douglas Jaja JP, Jeki V, Treaty king: Amayanabo And Natural Ruler Of Opobo Kingdom And Chairman Rivers State Council Of Traditional Rulers.

His Majesty king (Dr.) Dandeson Douglas Jaja JP, Jeki V, Treaty king, Amayanabo And Natural Ruler Of Opobo Kingdom And Chairman Rivers State Council Of Traditional Rulers, The king ascended the throne of legendary King Jaja, one of Africa’s foremost nationalist, in 2004. He carries a commendable frofile that is growing from contributions at different fora.

Even before his formal coronation, he was one of the widely recognized monarchs of modern Nigeria. As his father did in 1956 in Port Harcourt, he attended as one of the Paramount Rulers at the reception organized by the British High Commission For Queen Elizabeth II, in Abuja in December, 2003. following his appointment which was announced by the Governor, His Excellence Chief Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, CON GSSRS, on Friday June 19th, 2015. His Majesty is also the Chancellor of Federal University, DUTSIN-MA in Kastina State.

Announcing his appointment on May 5, 2015, the Federal Governments Letter acknowledged his “Wealth of experience and capacity to manage men and resources” the Amayanabo of Opobo is seen as one of the regular consultation with them, either in his Home base of Rivers State or across the constituency of South-South Monarchs Forum from Cross Rivers to Edo. He receives equal welcome in Badagry, Ile-Ife and other parts.

His Majesty king Dandeson Douglas Jaja Born on 28 April 1942 he is the first son of His Majesty king (Dr.) Douglas Jaja of blessed memory, the fourth Amayanabo (king) of Opobo & former Pro- Chancellor University of Jos. Prince Dandeson Douglas Jaja attended St. Paul’s Primary School, Opobo Town, National Grammer School, Nike in Enugu and Hull College of Higher Education (now Humberside University) in the United Kingdom. By 1977 his grooming in Ibani Culture and the intricate protocol of its traditional institution, manifested readiness for a life of cultural diplomacy. He was able to facilitate the stage performance of Mina Ogbo Ikine of Opobo that year at the FESTAC events in Lagos,  as the kingdom’s participation. An exponent of Ibani Folk Lore in dance routines practiced by cultural groups of Grand Bonny and Opobo Kingdom, the Amayanabo upholds his office as the symbol of a traditional institutions that is indigenous to the Niger Delta.

The Kingdom of Bonny is a traditional state based on the town of Bonny in Rivers State, Nigeria. In the pre-colonial period, it was an important slave trading port, later trading palm oil products. During the 19th century the British became increasingly involved in the internal affairs of the kingdom, in 1886 assuming control under a protectorate treaty. Today the King of Bonny has a largely ceremonial role.

 The unstable balance of power within Bonny deteriorated. On 14 December 1883 King George was deposed. Bonny Chiefs with Naval Commandant 1896. The next year Oko Jumbo fell out with the other chiefs in Bonny. There were rumors that he wanted to place one of his sons on the throne, although a planned coup attempt in January 1885 came to nothing. Another son, Herbert Jumbo, who had been educated in England, quarreled with his father and placed himself under the protection of the British consul.

In February 1886 a protectorate treaty was concluded between Bonny and Britain. A ruling council was established, and King George Pepple was restored to his throne. Oko Jumbo was publicly degraded, his bans on Christianity were repealed and afterwards he was a spent force in Bonny politics.

King George died in October 1888, and was succeeded by a series of regents, kings and at one time a Chiefs Council before Edward Asimini William Dappa Pepple III (Perekule XI) took the throne in 1996.
